The Centaur

This Centaur form is the fourth in a series of Centaurs that began during studies at Deakin University (Geelong, Australia) under the supervision of Ray Purdey and Rodick Carmichael during studies for a Master of Art degree.
The first Centaur consisted of more than 20 assembled pieces and was constructed from flat panels of plywood offcuts sourced from a building site. This Centaur was modelled on the classic Greek Centaur pose standing on 3 legs with the human torso twisted to one side, the head points to the side and one arm points upward.
The second Centaur consisted of only 3 assembled pieces of flat timber panels and reflected the work of Alexander Calder and Marino Marini.
The third Centaur was similar to the current form in that it consisted of 8 pieces of flat timber.
This third Centaur was then modified into the form shown here, so that the same 8 pieces could be configured as a 2D jigsaw puzzle and the 3D Centaur form
