paperless
One of the clues to electronify is a comparison to printing and paperless.
Printing is a mechanical action whereby some form of ink or dust is pressed or burnt onto the surface of paper. Anything that is printed is not electronic. However, the means to printing the paper may include the use of electronics.
Paperless is an example of not that. It speaks about something new in terms of what it is no longer. For example, the idea of a paperless office is one that has no paper.
There are various transitionary inventions between printing and paperless. The fax or facsimile machine is a good example. It delivers the message digitally over the phone lines only to convert it to paper when it arrives at the other end.
