electronify - introduction
One of the driving forces behind the shift to the Information Age is the shift from mechanical to electric technology.
The shift from a watch with cogs and moving parts to digital watches with only electronic components is a good example.
Electronic technology is an extension of the electric and I have created the term electronify to describe the action of converting items that were previously mechanical into new electronic forms.
For example, the motor car is becoming electronified as shown in the cost to produce a motor car which is now more in terms of the electronic components than the cost of the steel. General examples of electronify are often expressed by the letter e displayed before a more familiar term (thus our symbol). For example, e-commerce means not normal commerce, but electronic commerce. Other examples include: e-books, e-cash and e-tickets.
